Anna Charlotta Engdal was born 18 January 1864 to Jonas Magnus (Jonasson) Engdal and Hedvig Sophia Johansdotter in Åseda, Kronobergs, Sweden. She departed Göteborg October 5, 1889 and identified her destination as Hallock, Minnesota. On March 2, 1892 her daughter, Hilma Viktoria left Stödsboda, Kronobergs, Sweden to join her mother.
Upon arrival, Anna Charlotta married Charles August Ryden (born 8 June 1859). They are listed in the 1900 census as:

Anna Charlotta's father was in the Swedish Army. Born to Jonas (Jonasson) Blad (also in the army and using the military surname "Blad"), Jonas took the military surname "Engdal". Historical records of this family have been found with both the Engdal and Jonasson surnames.
The Engdal (Jonasson) family lived in the farm village of Ekholma, within Åseda township. By 1887 they were living in Stödsboda.
