Kittson profiles and photos from the past and present

Willie lists his immigration year anywhere from 1883 to 1889, depending on the census but most consistently 1888/9. According to the article on pages 435-436 of Karlstad, his father August “brought his three children and a brother-in-law to America.” Willie's obituary says August came first and brought his three children and brother-in-law Carl Johnson over two years later. There's some indication that August came in 1883 and that the others followed in 1885 but not in time to show up on the 1885 Stephen census.

According to available research on line, Swedish immigrants who came by way of Germany, nearly always came into New York, more specifically Castle Garden in the 1880-1890 window in which the Peterson’s came. There are volumes on German immigration from the time, but they need to be researched manually.

Anything that might assist in finding Willie's immigration record would be much appreciated.
