Kittson profiles and photos from the past and present
I am guessing this photo is from the late '50's or early '60's. The Karlstad American Legion put up a number of signs at the edges of the Karlstad community promoting safe driving. Legionaire in the photo are, from left to right, Palmer Oistad, Loyal Oistad, Norman (Butch) Krantz, and David Berg. Palmer had a few different businesses in Karlstad over the years, and my guess is, that at the time this was taken, he and wife Marjorie were operating a grocery store called MarPal Market. Loyal spent many years as Karlstad's mayor and bought, sold and shipped cattle and other livestock as the Karlstad Shipping Association. The earliest that I remember, Butch worked in the Hodne Hardware store, and for a few years was a deputy. Dave Berg owned Berg Drug on Karlstad's Main Street, which was later purchased by Larry Engen who eventually built a new building on the same site.
