St. Vincent & Orleans School Buildings: QUESTION

Does anyone know who built the school buildings in St. Vincent and Orleans?  St. Vincent's was built in 1903 and Orleans in 1905, and they appear to have been built from the same plans.  They look…Continue

Some of the Luckiest People in the World...

We were some of the luckiest people in the world, growing up where we did...and it was because a large group of people from PEI (and a few other places, too!) came and settled in Kittson County together. We are literally one big extended family, many of our families intermarrying down through the years. It was a big reason we had so much in common, and we all felt a kinship even when we didn't know the other closely upon first meeting. I never felt that way ever again, no matter where I have…

Kittson County Family Tree?????

I had an idea last night. I would dearly love to do a 'Family Tree' of Kittson County. I can't speak for your families (although I am aware of several of your families that this would apply to...), but in our family, there are several marriages into other 'original' families. What I'm talking about, is the main migration in the mid to late 1800s. Those families, especially those coming from the same area (i.e., Prince Edward Island, Ontario, etc.) commonly married into other families…

Hi Trish, Thanks for the head's up. Your flood pics are amazing! We had a flood (and pics) just like this in Oxford County Maine in 1936. I was listening to our local garden show this morning and for some reason, The host, Paul Parent uses a guy from Mn to screen the calls. He said you guys have "feets" of snow on the ground. We have very little snow in Northern New England.
Let me get back to the grindstone....... Jerry

Hi Trish, Welcome to the Kittson Historian and thanks for all your photos. Your St.Vincent Memories blog is a great site and I greatly enjoy it. We are not yet a year old so we have lots to learn and much to add. I hope you enjoy your move closer to your roots. Glenn

Hi Trish--Love reading your page but it is so hard to read the red on black--really have to squint my old eyes. Or is it just my computer that is acting up and not giving me the correct color scheme? Thanks, Louise Coffield

I was born and raised in Hallock. Ever since I was a kid, I've loved anything to do with local history. I wish there was a place like this website dedicated to Pennington county. Only place I know of is http://www.pvillage.org.

Yes, you're right about Pennington, that's about it.  I encourage you to visit my website all about not only St. Vincent, but about many other places in Kittson County, as well as Pembina, and a bit about Emerson, etc. at St. Vincent Memories...

I love your website! I've visited it off and on for the last year or so. Have you ever had the opportunity to go inside the Walter Hill farm house?

No, and I would LOVE to.  I have even tracked down the current owner and wrote her a letter asking if I might, but she never replied, sadly...

I got a tour of the house about 5 or 6 years ago. My parents knew the owner, who I believe has passed away since then. I'll ask my parents and find out though.
