These comments are directed to Sheryl Hrominchuk who just posted some photos and information on her grandfather Benjamen Jerome
I have checked the Jerome Family website and found a Ben Jerome whos father was Amable Jerome. Amable had six children and the 5th was Ben. From Sheryl's information it appears that Benjmen was born about 1817.
Ben Jerome was born between Arthur in 1905 and Leonard in 1919 so the dates fit. It is entirely likely that Sheryl's grandfather Benjaman and Amable's son Ben are one and the same people. I also noted that the first five children were born in Walhalla while the sixth was born in Canada, so it appears the family moved to Canada. Benjamin died in Manitoba.
I think there is a very good chance Ben and Benjamin are the same person.
Perhaps Sheryl will have some additional information on her grandfather that will help connect to Amable Jerome who would be her great grandfather. If anyone else has any further information or comments please join in.

This is for Sheryl
1.) As you are aware your grandfather was Benjamin (Ben) Jerome, born about 1917 in Walhalla, Pembina County, USA. He was the 5th of six children. I have not located his wife’s name yet.

2.) His father was Amable Jerome, (your great grandfather) Born 21 February 1862 in Minnesota. He appeared in the 1910 Census in Freemont Township, Cavalier County, North Dakota, USA. He died before 1960. His wife was Louise Anne Lagimoniere, born 7 Sept. 1884 in Olga, Cavalier County, North Dakota, USA.

3.) Amable’s father was Joseph Jerome (your great great grandfather) who was born 1 Aug. 1832 in St. Boniface, (across the Red River from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He appeared in the 1850, 1860, and 1870 Census in Pembina, Dakota Territory, later to be North Dakota, USA. He died about 13th of July 1913 in Willow Bunch, Saskatchewan, Canada at about age 65.
His wife was Marguerite Duceppe Smith, born in St. Boniface, Manitoba, Canada. They had eight children.

4.) Joseph’s father was Martin Jerome Jr. (your great, great, great grandfather) born in 1801 in the Saskatchewan River Valley in Saskachewan, Canada. He appeared in the 1850, 1860, and 1870 census in Pembina County, Dakota Territory, USA He died on 29th of July 1879 and was buried in St. Joseph, Leroy, Dakota Territory.
He was married twice. His first marriage was to Angelique Letendre who was born about 1808 in the Northwest Territories, Canada. She died between 1830-1831. They had four children. The fourth child was Andre Jerome, after whom this group page was named.
After Angelique Letendre died, Martin married Elizabeth (Betsy) Jerome Wilkie in about 1831. She appeared in the 1850, 1860, and 1870 census in Pembina, North Dakota Territory, USA. She died on 29th of July 1878 and was buried in Belcourt Cemetery, Belcourt, North Dakota, USA. Martin and Elizabeth had eleven children.

Please note - Andre Jerome was the fourth child of Martin Jerome Jr. and his wife Angelique.
Joseph Jerome was the fifth child of Martin but the first child with Elizabeth..
These two boys were half-brothers and each had a long list of descendants.

Lon this is for you.
You share the same ggg grandfather, Martin Jerome Jr. with Sheryl.
However, your gg grandfather is Andre Jerome while his half brother, Joseph Jerome is Sheryl’s gg grandfather.

Please note the Jerome family web site is listed in the heading of this group.
I suggest you use the surname list to locate a particular person. Their children are listed and clicking on their names will give you their details and children if any.
If you wish to find the father of a particular person named in the heading of a page, click on the heading name and you will be taken to the father's page.

Wow, thanks Glenn for the update, but isn't Andre my Great Grandfather, not great great, my grandfather was Alexander and his father was Andre. I did not know that Andre's mother died when he was young and was raised by a stepmother. Also didn't know about the 2 families or half siblings. Great work as always, I am sure I put you through hell again by asking stupid questions, but I am so glad you oblige. So to Sheryl, we are related by blood but it's a ways back.

My dad is right! :) Andre is MY GG Grandfather.. .

because - my Dad is Lon Jerome - my Grandpa is Lawrence Jerome - my Great Grandpa is Alexander Jerome - therefore my Great Great Grandpa is Andre - which (I believe) makes Sheryl and I the same generation (family tree-wise) - and 4th cousins!

Sheryl: I find it interesting that you mention a cousin who is a Gosselin. In researching the family history of the Jerome family I have also done some research on the Gosselin family. Andre Jerome was married to Marguerite Gosselin; they were my great grandparents. The family history data that I have collected on the Jerome family is at the website http://JeromeFamily.name. At that website is a link to the family history data I have collected for the Gosselin family line of Marguerite Gosselin. There may well be errors in what I have shown on those websites, so if you find anything that should be corrected or added, I would be happy to make necessary changes to get it right. I would appreciate whatever you can add about your family line so that I can add it to that story.

ED -

if we WANT our names to appear on your website (instead of "living") would you put them back?

The Jerome and Gosselin (Gooselaw) families are indeed old families of the area and fascinating to research. I am in the middle of moving right now from Fargo to Thief River Falls so can't research or write much, but am excited about this website and intend to take Glenn up on his invitation to write about my grandparents here and contribute in any way that might help...

The software used for my website is set to observe what is a standard practice for genealogy data to protect the privacy of the living family members. So that personal data on living members is hidden on the websites which are readily available to the public. However, as I have noted on the website, I will be happy to provide a printed copy of family history narratives to verified relatives. If you or other relatives want a copy, just send your address to my email address which is on the website. If you prefer, I can send it by email.

While going on a walk in Thief River Falls last night, I saw a street named JEROME STREET - I hadn't known there was one called that in TRF. Does anyone know if it is in honor of the Jerome family from our area?
