Kittson County Historical Center and Museum News
On Wednesday, October 13th, the Kittson Historian members met for their monthly meeting at the Museum in Lake Bronson. Those attending were Glenn Browne, Kathy Pederson, Marci Johnson, Allen and Joan Olson, Lori Bothum, Cindy Adams, Mrs. Leroy (Carol) Stumpf, Lyndon Johnson and Louise Coffield. Marie Lindstrom also arrived during the meeting, bringing new historical items to display at the museum.
All enjoyed a very informative meeting as Lyndon, Glenn, Kathy and Louise all presented details of various workshops attended. Glenn showed records of the people living in Northwest Minnesota at the time of the 1850 Census and spoke about the history of Kittson County during the time it was part of the Territory of Minnesota. At that time, Pembina and parts of North Dakota were part of the Territory of Minnesota too. Glenn also presented information about Norman Kittson and James J. Hill.
Lyndon spoke of an interesting workshop put on by the Hallock Library. It was a “hands-on” workshop so the attendees were able to participate in making special scrap booking papers and other items.
Kathy and Louise each presented information about the 35th annual Family History Workshops they attended at Minnesota State University of Moorhead. Twenty-Four separate classes on various aspects of genealogy were available and each person attending had the chance to participate in four workshops.
The Kittson County Historical Museum has a vast amount of genealogical information available to the public. A gift shop is also available so patrons can purchase gifts of historical significance or locally created items such as artwork, sweatshirts, note cards and earrings. Call the Museum at 218-754-4100 if you are interested in finding out more about your family history. It is an exciting hobby!
